The Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre, located at Central World, is a luxury hotel near All Seasons building, and is owned and operated by Centara Hotels and Resorts, one of Thailand’s largest hotel operators.
Recently, the Tourism Authority of Thailand went and gave out awards for notable achievers in the field of tourism, with the Centara Grand having been voted by the majority of Thailand’s 10M Chinese visitors (yearly average), as the country’s ‘Best City Hotel’ in the 2017 People’s Choice Award.
The poll was completed recently, last June, and is regarded as proof of the growing importance of Chinese tourists to Thailand’s tourism sector. Meanwhile, the award won by Centara is representative of their success in meeting the demands of the Chinese tourists.
Centara Hotels and & Resorts, has been taking great efforts to appeal to the Chinese tourists that visit Thailand. Most of Centara’s hotels and resorts across the world have Chinese-speaking staff, and their menu usually incorporates Chinese cuisine in one way or another. On top of that, Centara also offers Chinese posted on the Centara official website, which is also hosted in China, all for convenience for the Chinese market. The official site provides Chinese information about Centara’s operations; hotels and destinations, promotions and booking, on top of accepting payment made via UnionPay, one of China’s most popular payment channels. Centara is also present and active on Wiebo and WeChat, China’s leading social media platforms.
All of this organisation for the sake of Chinese tourists is held up in the majority of Centara’s 66 properties, 43 of which are located in Thailand, with one of them being a hotel near All Seasons building; the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre, which is one of the group’s most notable properties.
In addition to the many services, Centara offers multi-ethnic restaurants, Thai-style spa services, water parks, and other attractive features that appeal to wide demographic range. According to them, the Thai culture for hospitality has also been a key factor in their success.
Tom Thrussell, Centara’s Vice President of Marketing and one of its key executives, said that Chinese tourists now represents the group’s largest and most significant inbound market, and that growth is to be expected in the future. To ensure that, he says that Centara is committed to understanding the needs of their Chinese guests. To that end, Thrussell, as well as Paul Wilson, VP of Sales, and Harry Thaliwal, Group Director of Operations, visited China, completing a road-show that travelled through five major cities and Hong Kong itself.
