Tourist Spots Are Taking After Measures Done In Koh Tachai

Koh Tachai’s beaches were too white, its coral reefs too colorful and its marine life too impressive. That is its concern. Now, tourists are no longer allowed to go there because the Thai authorities already closed it for tourists. This is the most drastic response to the increasing number of world travelers.

Koh Tachai is an island in the Andaman sea. This is a part of the Similan national park. Daytrippers from Phuket and Khao Lak do activities like Similan Island diving here since it is popular with scuba divers and people who snorkel.

The effects of a tourist spots’ popularity

Its TripAdvisor page says how it has been consumed by tourists.

For a Willow E from Staffordshire, he mentions that many divers flock to this island. He added that there are at least 8 boats carrying 20 divers on board which are driving away marine life due to their numbers. He calls the attention of the park admins to do something about it too.

The action for change

Thailand’s national parks’ office already took action. When they spoke with Bangkok Post, they mentioned that they want the island to be able to recover without tourism activities before it’s too late.

Last year, on a record high, almost 30 million tourists went to Thailand. In 2015, there were 1.2 billion international arrivals which is 50 million more than in 2014. This is according to the UN World Tourism Organization.

Closure vs profits from tourism

The islands, museums or cathedrals are not getting bigger. However, the will to control tourists is often overlooked due to the profits received from tourists.

Closures are extremely rare. In October last year, Palawan guardians threatened to shut down some dive sites.

However, caps are getting common. In the Cinque Terre UN world heritage area, only 1.5 million people are allowed this year. Iceland is thinking of keeping a national limit. Peru is to control the numbers at its Machu Picchu site.

Rachel O’Reilly from Kouni mentioned that every person has at least gone to places where crowds become damaging. For her, these destinations have to see it long term in order to keep spots intact and fresh.
